Jennifer Schleining, DVM, MS, DACVS-LA
Jennifer Schleining is a board certified large animal surgeon and clinical educator at Texas A&M University.
She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from South Dakota State University where she had to take class notes by hand and graduated with her DVM from Iowa State University in 2001. She then entered a period of soul-searching which led to five states in five years and included completing internships in equine medicine and surgery at Arizona Equine Medical and Surgical Centre in Gilbert, AZ and Southwest Equine Medical and Surgical Center in Scottsdale, AZ, practicing as a mixed animal associate in Fort Pierre, South Dakota, and completing a Large Animal Clinical Fellowship at Oregon State University prior to completing a large animal surgery residency at Iowa State University. Somewhere along the way she obtained a Master’s Degree in Veterinary Clinical Science with an emphasis in biomechanics. She spent 14 years on the faculty at Iowa State University and is currently an associate clinical professor in the Department of Veterinary Large Animal Clinical Sciences at Texas A&M.
Her professional interests include the education of veterinary students, advancing surgical procedures and knowledge in large animals, and orthopedic diseases. Jennifer is married to her veterinary classmate and partner in crime, Dr. Frank Cerfogli, who has patiently (mostly) followed her on her quest for professional fulfillment. Together, they tackle the responsibilities and chaos of four children, an ancient spoiled house cat, an eternally happy Golden Retriever, and two leopard geckos.
