Kenita Rogers is a native of West Virginia and completed her undergraduate education with a BS in Animal and Veterinary Science at West Virginia University in 1979. She graduated with a DVM degree from Louisiana State University in 1982. After completing a one-year rotating internship at the University of Georgia, Dr. Rogers spent three years in an internal medicine residency (1983-1986) at Texas A&M University.
She received her MS degree and joined the faculty at Texas A&M University in 1986. She was a faculty member in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences from 1986-2006, and is an ACVIM diplomate in the specialties of internal medicine (1987) and oncology (1990). She served as the Associate Dean for Professional Programs from 2006-2016. Since that time, she has served as the Executive Associate Dean for the college. In 2009, she was named to the Charles H. and Mildred Kruse Bridges Chair in Veterinary Medical Education, and from 2011 to the present she has also been the Director for Diversity & Inclusion.
Dr. Rogers has received the Norden Distinguished Teaching award, the Richard H. Davis Teaching award, two Veterinary Medical Hospital Service awards, and the college-level Association of Former Students Teaching award on three occasions. In 2013, she received the University-level Award for Student Relations from the Association of Former Students. In 2016, she received the national Broad Spectrum LGBT+ Awareness award and the Dean’s Impact award. In 2019, she was awarded the AAVMC Iverson Bell Diversity Award and the Texas A&M ACE Faculty Service award for diversity & inclusion work.
She is the author of over 65 articles in refereed journals and 33 book chapters, and has presented 175 continuing education seminars. She is a current series editor for Contemporary Issues in Conflict Mediation and Dialogue. Her current interests include clinical oncology, cytology, leadership development, conflict management, and climate and diversity issues. She has two daughters and shares her home with two Borzoi.
